Traveling to a known destination by yourself can be scary, so traveling to an unknown place must be frightening, right? NO! Traveling solo is the best thing I’ve ever done for myself, and here are my biggest 4 reasons why:
1. Independency
It goes by saying – the freedom! You can go exactly where you want and at your own pace. The itinerary, activities, sightseeing etc. are all up to you – you decide! (Pssst you can use Lentii to help plan your trip)
You can chill out by the pool all day in Thailand, sip cocktails at night at the beach in Mexico or you can put your hiking boots on and go for a hike up the mountain in New Zealand. Or better yet, you can do all of the things above if that’s what you’re into (And can afford). It’s all up to you – and only you! So go out there, and be young, wild and free!
2. Solo traveling will improve your self-esteem
Going solo traveling is a big self-esteem booster! Going out of your comfort zone is tough, but once you’ve done that, you can do everything. You’ll push your boundaries and conquer your fears, and while you do so, you’ll feel like the king – or queen – of the world.
I know I did when I made it to the top of a very active black volcano in Nicaragua! Dripping with sweat and exhausted after a one hour hike (yes, only an hour, but hiking up an active volcano is incredibly hot) was the highlight of my trip to Nicaragua.
That might not sound like I conquered any fears of mine, but after you’ve read this post, you’ll know exactly why (Hint: We didn’t hike down the volcano, we boarded down. Yes you read right, Volcano Boarding is a thing!)
3. Socializing is possible even when traveling solo
“A stranger is a friend you just haven’t met yet.”
You might not believe this, but it is actually way easier to socialize and make new travel mates when you’re on your own. There is no-one else to do it for you, so you’ll have to make up the courage and befriend them yourself. (Read this blog post for tips on how to make friends while traveling)
4. It will change you - for the better!
There is no doubt that traveling solo will definitely change you for the better.
It can be scary, thrilling but also incredibly giving and exciting, and you will be proud of yourself for everything you’ll have accomplished throughout your travels. It will be the best thing you have ever done, and it will, without a doubt, change you and make you able to stand on your own two feet.
So what are you waiting for?
Grab your passport, pack your back, and go explore on your own! – Just like I did when I went to Australia with nothing else but my passport and a small duffle bag that could go as hand luggage
– Yes, I went to Australia with less than 7 kg of clothes and the intention to stay for a year. And I did – it was amazing, liberating, and a year full of memories I’ll never forget – wanna know why? Then check out these 5 things I did while I was down under (Link to another Lentii)
